The 81st UN General Assembly is arriving at an unusually charged astrological moment. The Sun has just entered 0° Libra, putting negotiation, balance and the question of how competing powers coexist at the centre of the chart, while Mercury is also in Libra. Yet this is not a quiet diplomatic Libra: Saturn and Neptune are retrograde together in early Aries, Uranus is retrograde in Gemini and Pluto retrograde in Aquarius. The symbolism is remarkably close to the actual agenda: a world order being challenged and redesigned, arguments over sovereignty and war, technological transformation, climate, sea-level rise and the future architecture of international institutions. The UN itself is explicitly discussing restoring trust and managing transformation, while Guterres has called for reform of global institutions and greater representation for the developing world.
The planetary picture says less “agreement at any price” than a confrontation between the old order and something genuinely multipolar trying to emerge.
The leaders make the pattern even more interesting. Trump is Gemini, born 14 June 1946; Xi Jinping is Gemini, born 15 June 1953, so both sit directly in the territory activated by Uranus in Gemini: communication, information, trade, technology and sudden changes of direction. Putin is Libra, Macron Sagittarius, and Modi Virgo; their different styles symbolically interact with the present Libra Sun, Virgo-to-Libra transition and Jupiter in Leo. And then there is Canada: Canada is conventionally given a Cancer national chart based on Confederation, while Mark Carney, born 16 March 1965, is Pisces. That Cancer–Pisces combination is particularly striking now because Mars is at 27° Cancer while Neptune is in Aries: Canada/Carney symbolically occupies the water-sign, humanitarian, alliance-building side of the present struggle, while Mars in Cancer brings questions of homeland, security, borders and protection sharply into the diplomatic field. Carney has in fact been actively building deeper Canada–EU relations and multilateral partnerships immediately before UNGA. What we would want from this sky is the constructive expression of Saturn–Neptune in Aries: turning idealism into workable structures rather than allowing ideology, force or illusion to dominate; Uranus in Gemini could bring a breakthrough through information, technology or an unexpected diplomatic channel, while Pluto in Aquarius continues the enormous redistribution of power away from a purely Western-centred system. The strongest practical possibility is therefore not one grand settlement but new alignments and partial agreements: pressure for a diplomatic route over Iran, continued attempts to contain the Ukraine conflict, stronger European–Canadian cooperation, and a larger Global South voice in UN and financial institutions. The actual UN week already reflects this direction, with Canada, Brazil, India, the EU and others forming a “Partners for Multilateralism” initiative. Astrologically, the sky looks like a negotiation point in a much larger restructuring: confrontation remains very real, but so does the possibility that the pressure finally forces countries to begin constructing a different kind of international agreement.
